OMG French Onion Soup

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Baguette slices
  • 1-2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic to the pot and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the soup to a simmer and let it cook for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  4. While the soup is simmering, preheat your oven’s broiler. Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them under the broiler until they are golden brown on both sides.
  5. Ladle the hot soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with a couple of toasted baguette slices and a generous amount of shredded Gruyere cheese.
  6. Place the bowls under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Carefully remove the bowls from the oven (they will be hot!) and let them cool slightly before serving.
