OMG French Onion Soup
Ingredients:
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Baguette slices
- 1-2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions:
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
- Add minced garlic to the pot and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the soup to a simmer and let it cook for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- While the soup is simmering, preheat your oven’s broiler. Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them under the broiler until they are golden brown on both sides.
- Ladle the hot soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with a couple of toasted baguette slices and a generous amount of shredded Gruyere cheese.
- Place the bowls under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Carefully remove the bowls from the oven (they will be hot!) and let them cool slightly before serving.
